Codes

Dosimetry from A to Z

The table below provides detailed explanations of the codes printed on the results reports. All comments are given in plain text in the current results reports.

Code Explanation Recommended action
Dose value without indication of a code The dosimeter was irradiated from the front according to its intended use.

Dose value is correct within the permissible tolerances.

Indication of the presence of a beta radiation source (@) A measurement analysis of the dosimeter revealed an indication of the presence of a beta radiation source and/or low-energy photons.

The evaluation is correct, but the dose may have been obtained in an improper way (examples: Contamination, the dosimeter was forgotten in the controlled area or by a baggage screening device).

The irradiation circumstances that led to this report must be clarified.
Dosimeter was irradiated obliquely (B) The dosimeter was irradiated obliquely.

The evaluation is correct, but the dose may have been obtained in an improper way (examples: Contamination, the dosimeter was forgotten in the controlled area or by a baggage screening device).

The irradiation circumstances that led to this report must be clarified.
Dosimeter defective - cannot be evaluated (E) The dosimeter cannot be evaluated because it was received damaged at the monitoring service. The costs for the replacement of the dosimeter will be charged.

The result report does not contain a dose value and notification is made to the supervisory authority.

For official dosimeters, a replacement dose must be specified.
Dosimeter cannot be evaluated - machine error (M) Due to an operational malfunction at the monitoring service, no evaluation can be performed for the dosimeter.

The result report does not contain a dose value and notification is made to the supervisory authority.

For official dosimeters, a replacement dose must be specified.1
Blister packaging damaged - no evaluation (O) The OSL blister packaging is damaged or missing. An official evaluation is not possible.

The result report does not contain a dose value and notification is made to the supervisory authority.

For official dosimeters, a replacement dose must be specified.
Measurement timeout - not evaluable (T) The dosimeter has been returned outside the measuring time and can therefore no longer be evaluated. According to the guidelines, the monitoring service is obliged to make a report to the supervisory authority and the responsible radiation protection officer.

The result report does not contain a dose value and notification is made to the supervisory authority.

For official dosimeters, a replacement dose must be specified.
Automatic loss (X) No return of the dosimeter within the maximum permissible measuring time. According to the guidelines, the monitoring service is obliged to make a report to the supervisory authority and the responsible radiation protection officer. The costs for the replacement of the dosimeter will be charged.

The result report does not contain a dose value and notification is made to the supervisory authority.

For official dosimeters, a replacement dose must be specified.
Replacement dose Due to incorrect or omitted measurement of the official personal dose, the supervisory authority has determined a replacement dose.
Urgent evaluation Special evaluation after request by the SSB. This takes place within one day after the arrival of the dosimeter at the monitoring service. An additional fee will be charged.
Late Dosimeters The dosimeter was not returned within the specified period. An additional fee will be charged.

If the return is within the permitted measurement time, the dose value is correct within the permissible tolerances. (see also remark T).

In the future, dosimeters should be avoided being returned late.
Special report is made In accordance with the guidelines on requirements for monitoring services, the monitoring service is obliged to make an immediate special report to the supervisory authority and the responsible radiation protection officer in the following cases:

· Whole Body Dose Hp(10): 6 mSv or; 2 mSv for women younger than 45 years of age or; 1 mSv for adolescents younger than 18 years or

· Eye Lens Dose Hp(3): 6 mSv or

· Partial Body Dose Hp(0,07): 150 mSv

Depending on the type of special report, the irradiation circumstances that led to this report must be clarified. The monitoring service will be happy to assist you with any questions you may have.
Message is sent In accordance with the guidelines on requirements for monitoring services, the monitoring service shall submit a notification to the supervisory authority in the monthly report in the following cases:

· Whole Body DoseHp(10): 2 mSv or

· Eye Lens Dose Hp(3): 2 mSv or

· Partial Body Dose Hp(0,07): 50 mSv

The dosimeter cannot be evaluated (see above).

1 If costs are incurred for the determination of the replacement dose, these will be reimbursed to you by the monitoring service. For this purpose, please send us a copy of the cost notice and the payment receipt as well as the bank details for the return transfer. For legal reasons, the cost notice cannot be paid directly by the monitoring service.
